The NELSON's in New York

You can plan something down to the finest detail and guarantee.....something will go wrong.  It usually always does --- Remember James Taylor at Tanglewood.......

Anyway - Stacey had a great idea that since she and her family were coming to the East Coast, what would be better than a couple days at the beach.  And what better place than Cape May, NJ.  And in June when the prices are cheaper.  It was a win-win.  Stacey made arrangements to fly to NY, rent a van and then drive to the Jersey Shore.  We would meet them there.  Be on the beach by noon, or so we thought.

What really happened?
Day 1 - their red-eye was delayed in SLC, instead of leaving at 12 a.m., they left at 2 a.m.  Waiting 2 hours with sleepy kids and a toddler.  Their connection was 2 hours which was plenty of time, if you got to Charlotte on time.  But they didn't.  So they waited for 3 more flights until they were finally on their way to the Big Apple.  Then drove the 3 hours to the beach.  We finally met up at 5:30 p.m. on the beach.  Then the day became magical.  Kids were laughing, jumping in waves, making sand castles.  We saw dolphins and speed boats.  Finally exhausted, we changed the kids for a night on the town in Cape May complete with miniature golf and ice cream.

Day 2 - it rained!  But that didn't stop us from having fun.  Can you say Hibachi complete with    a squirt of Saki (shh) -- they thought it was water! Oh and Jess let me dye her hair.  In the evening we went to the beach again.  While we were peacefully watching the dolphins swimming by and the kids playing in the waves, we spotted some sort of sea monster stretch out of the ocean.  We are still not quite sure if it was a manta ray or a shark, but it was creepy!  At night we headed to the boardwalk for rides, cotton candy and fun!  Notice the sweatshirts!  Isn't the sun suppose to shine in June?

Day 3 - The sun came out and we headed to the arcade in Cape May.  Then the long trip back to New York.  We had dinner at Uncle's favorite Italian place. It's like he owns the joint!

Day 4 -  Camping, sailing and jetskiing with grandpa -- except grandpa overdid it a bit or had a virus, but he ended up so sick he couldn't go to Michael and Katie's wedding.  It was a packed day for sure, but that's how we do things.  Do we ever just sit?

Katie and Michael were married at The Links country club across the road from Aunt Julie and Uncle Bob.  Katie looked stunning and she and Michael were beaming!  So happy we got to celebrate with them!

The rest of the week was filled with swimming at Freedom Park and our pool and visiting Gigi and Aunt Vicki. We celebrated Father's Day at the Ashworths and spent a day swimming with cousins, Nicholas, Anthony and Eliana!   Zoey also got a new hairstyle and looks so adorable!

It was a fun filled week and it's always a bummer when they go home because I still have bucket list items that I want to do with them.   Next time they come, we are going to the City!!!
Come back soon.
